Abstract

Based on the concept of symbolic violence, this article examines the discourses of a variety of institutions -the Roman Catholic Church, intellectuals and Science - with regard to gender differences. Ali converge on a similar result: different behavior  among men and women has been explained on a biological basis, confirming the inferiority of women, particularly in the intellectual sphere. Based on this assumption, the impossibility of reaching common criteria was justified with regard to the exercise of citizenship. This stance gives rise to the male fear of losing predominance In relationships between the genders. Lt also analyzes the reactions of women faced with this situation, particularly in surreptitious ways or through organized movements
