Abstract

FIGUEROA-CESPEDES, Ignacio et al. Are you out there?: Social situations in a distance-based continuous teacher training experience, in the context of COVID-19. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 2024, vol.29, e290051.  Epub May 22, 2024. ISSN 1809-449X.  https://doi.org/10.1590/s1413-24782024290051.

The research aims to understand the social situations experienced in a Continuing Teacher Education program with a focus on Mediated Learning Experience, from the perspectives of the training team. The case was developed in Chile in remote modality, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A qualitative methodology of narrative design was applied, using ethnographic records and interviews. The results show three scenarios of interaction in a virtual context: cameras turned off, low participation and controversy regarding the training proposal. In these situations, the training team experiences emotions of discomfort, sadness and frustration when they do not see the presence and involvement of the group of participating teachers, developing interactive performances. The importance of elaborating experiences considering the novelty of the context in order to achieve an effective adaptation of the different interaction scenarios is discussed.
