SILVA, Giovanna Santos da and MARTINS, Edna. Educational practices of teachers and families in the process of building the identity of the black children. Práxis Educativa [online]. 2022, vol.17, e2219451. Epub Mar 10, 2022. ISSN 1809-4309. https://doi.org/10.5212/praxeduc.v.17.19451.026.
Focusing on ethnic-racial relations at school and in the family, the aim of this study was to understand how the educational practices of teachers and families occur in the processes of socialization and formation of identities of black children. Based on a qualitative study, and grounded on the historical-cultural approach, the methodology consisted of the analysis of individual interviews with black and white teachers and families of black children from the early grades of education. Data analysis allowed to conclude that racial discrimination brings serious impacts on the self-esteem and school performance of black students, creating obstacles for a positive ethnic-racial identity. Furthermore, the importance of educational actions and practices on the part of families and schools was verified, such as the establishment of dialogues about the ethnic-racial theme and the search for black references for the education of children in school.
