CORREA, Luiz Fernando Assunção and SILVA, Vergas Vitória Andrade. CULTURAL CAPITAL AND THE REPRODUCTION OF CONTEMPORARY EDUCATIONAL INEQUALITIES: a narrative review. Rev. Exitus [online]. 2025, vol.15, e025009. Epub June 12, 2025. ISSN 2237-9460. https://doi.org/10.24065/re.v15i1.2763.
This article, through a narrative literature review, seeks to outline an overview of the contemporary debate on the relationship between cultural capital and the reproduction of educational inequalities. The theoretical basis is based on the sociology of education of Pierre Bourdieu and Jean-Claude Passeron. The work is guided by the following question: how do recent studies assess the relevance of the concept of cultural capital and the work Reproduction in understanding contemporary educational phenomena? To answer this question, articles indexed in the SciELO Platform, published between 2021 and 2022, were selected and analyzed using the descriptors “Cultural Capital”, “Reproduction” and “Bourdieu and Passeron”. The review resulted in two main syntheses: (1) The concept of cultural capital in the face of new social realities and (2) The relevance and legacy of the work Reproduction. The conclusions indicate that, despite criticisms and limitations, the concept of cultural capital remains essential to understand the contemporary processes of social reproduction produced by the school institution. Furthermore, the work Reproduction continues to be applied and adapted to new contexts and social challenges, maintaining its relevance in the analysis of educational inequalities.
