GONCALVES, Viviane Oliveira y PARRA MARTINEZ, Juan. Body image and perceiving the influence of the media: gender differences in a sample of adolescents. Rev. Inter Ação [online]. 2014, vol.39, n.3, pp.461-478. ISSN 0101-7136. https://doi.org/10.5216/ia.v39i3.27535.
The aim of this study was to investigate gender differences in a sample of adolescents in relation to body image and perception of media influence. A qualitative study was conducted in Toledo (Spain), using the discussion group as a technique for data collection. Differences were found in the discourses with regard to the body according to gender and a greater concern and dissatisfaction with body image in female adolescents. A diversity of mediators in constructing the body image in today's world was also found. These include slimness being the norm, the lack of diversity of clothing sizes that can adapt to different bodies, and social evidence that slim people are better accepted in all social spheres.
