This paper discusses the role of didactics in the education of teachers for the contemporary school. The objective of the study consists in analyzing how the students perceive the didactic practices of those they regard as reference professors. To that end, we have prepared a questionnaire comprising open and closed questions, available online to be accessed by the students of the Faculty of Education of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. We have analyzed the data according to content analysis and we have discussed them based on those who side with Shulman (2005), in his studies about the basis of teachers’ professional knowledge, as well as Cunha (2012) and André (1995), regarding good teacher practices.
