This paper aims at presenting theoretical reflections upon rural teachers formation, on the base of an experience of initial formation for monitors in the School Farm Family from the state of Bahia, through an agreement with the State University of Bahia. We present a theoretical debate, first discussing contemporary questions related to rural education, then questions related to public policies in teachers formation, among them, the formation of rural teachers. We present next, the methodological bases of our studies and describe the program objectives and motivation. Finally, we highlight the research relevance considering as references the official statistics about this level of schooling for educators who work in rural schools.
