This paper present the first results of the research project “Conflicts, negotiations and regulation: religious conversion in the conjugal sphere”. The project, financed by the CNPq, deals with the question of the religious diversity among families and schools, and it privileges a multidisciplinary bibliography, with a strong socio-anthropological approach. The research is based on interviews, focal groups and family accounts, collected in Salvador among families of popular and intermediate levels and of different creeds. What is being searched is the comprehension of the conflicts and their forms of regulation through the analysis of a chain of meanings that can only be interpreted by the definition of the mapping of the place of each member inside the families’ web. School pops up as one of the spaces of tension, and the expectations bred by the family around it’s role, help us to understand the origins of the conflicts existing between the family and the school when religion is on stake.
