This artic1e discusses youth and adult students' discomfort in considering school as their own place. The research subjects are young people between 14 and 23 and adults between 24 and 65 years old, all high School students in a public Youth and Adult Education Program in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Our analysis approaches generational relations reflecting upon the tensions between success space and failure space and between young's place and adult's place in the school of Youth and Adult Education, by identifying school practices as either inc1usion or exclusion spaces for young and adult students of Basic School.
