Analyzing the meanings of traveling in the trajectory of the educator Rocha Pombo isthe goal of the present work. It is argued that throughout the trajectory of the educator, the movement in different spaces was critical to his legitimacy in the intellectual field. According to the analysis of the sources, it appears that contacts established with different subjects, in different states and institutions, were crucial for the adoption and circulation of his books nationwide. If, for many, traveling abroad enabled access to sources and files considered essential for writing the history of Brazil, the movement of Rocha Pombo was an important way for his propagation nationwide, and it enabled the expansion of the his own definition of Brazil.
