Quality assurance in higher education is linked to academic rankings, in which internationalization takes center stage. In this context, the aim of this study is to analyze the perspectives on the internationalization of higher education based on the epistemological assumptions present in the literature. The descriptors “Epistemologies of Internationalization,” “Internationalization of Higher Education,” “Epistemological Trends,” and “Epistemological Strands” were searched for on the SCIELO platform. The articles found were grouped into two categories: the first, called Epistemologies of the North, looked at academic exchange with remnants of the colonial period. The second, called Epistemologies of the South, pointed to contributions to integral education from a decolonial perspective. It is therefore suggested that the creation of networks between countries in the global south could help strengthen internationalization through solidarity and interculturalism.
