Semiconductor materials have yield advancement of the purest physics, since they are real examples of formerly academical issues. Besides, semiconductor devices are the background of the whole logical and control electronic industry. In this paper it is done a brief discussion of the main concepts involved in semiconductor physics and a simplified historical review. It is also discussed some examples of semiconductor devices: diode and transistor, which are treated in a simple approach, focusing the most used semiconductor material, silicon. Examples of more complex devices and materials are also presented.
