DIAS, Ana Cecília Machado. Petrópolis com olhos de crianças: o retrato do espaço urbano como suporte didático. ETD [online]. 2010, vol.11, n.02, pp.188-203. ISSN 1676-2592.
Understanding the city from what children show us by the way they see with their photographic eyes, makes it an object of study in this work, questions like: What kind of images call the children’s attention? How do children appropriate the space of a city? What do children notice by observing the local geography? Children learn by interecting whith the cultural and social environment they live in. When the school uses the city as a big research laboratory for observation and investigation of the images, it is contributing for the learning of concepts represented in a day-to-day routine where spaces and culture working together meet themselves in a society in a variety of languages, revealing the characteristics of the time people are living in the city. Acting this way we are giving credibility to a child who has many different abilities and is curious to experience a world that is competent and active, therefore this child is somebody who does not only see culture as a consumer, but by living in the city becomes a responsability for the production and preservation of the urban space.
