The New School movement in Brazil acquires notoriety around 1920, despite the fact that in Santa Catarina State the modifications in elementary school's teaching methods were only implemented officially in the decade of 1940. In this context, this article aims to the matter: which proposals to arithmetic's teaching can be read on official documents in the decade of 1940? The theoretical-methodological tooling applied in the article's analysis is prevenient from Cultural History. We found that the 1946 program presented many innovations related to the structural and didactic-pedagogic fields, seeking to institute a Curriculum that could make feasible to children to experience knowledge useful to the practical and social life.
