This article investigates the state of knowledge in theses and dissertations as one of the paths for research in the history of education, in particular, on the history of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Mato Grosso (IFMT), located in the central region of Mato Grosso. west of Brazil. The research sought academic productions resulting from theses and dissertations defended in national graduate programs, stricto sensu, which addressed the history of the IFMT between 1909 and 2008. The objective was to map and analyze academic research, thematic-historical and methodological approaches used in these researches. The methodology adopted addresses strategies for the elaboration of states of knowledge used in research on the history of education, through the application of the Prisma method, as a systematized search procedure, in public digital repositories, with the definition of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Four doctoral theses and 16 master's dissertations were found that addressed the pre-defined theme, whose sources show that the history of the IFMT lacks research and other studies that bring reflections and analyzes on professional education in Mato Grosso, Brazil.
