In the Charmides, Plato establishes a philosophical reflection on the human healing process. Based on the Thracian myth of Zalmoxis, the Athenian philosopher makes his character Socrates argue that this process is governed by the human psyche and not by external principles. Therefore, Socrates replaces the magical characteristics around this process, sustained by Thracian belief, by psychological characteristics. In this sense, we will try to emphasize how Plato operates with those principles and maintains his own theory about psychic healing.
