This study seeks to historicize women's education in a particular historical moment, specifically in the late nineteenth century. This paper is based on ideas presented in the world, in Brazil and Pernambuco. It is part of a wider investigation of women teacher training from its beginning to the boundary of the twentieth century. Its bibliographical and documentary character, based on sources, authors, documents, journals and periodicals in order to(re) build aspects of social reality of Pernambuco related to the topic through the social environment, which pointed to a "sense of community", preparating the society for the acceptance of new ideas that are intended to be "modern". This social movement was made from the bottom to the top, by the free dissemination of ideas, by conviction, with abundant use of media and educational activities, revealing a belief in the power of education to implement a desired modern society, founded in urbanization and industrialization.
