Since the publication of the National Curriculum Parameters in 1997, the school was requested to develop emotional and sexual socialization intervention projects for adolescents. In order to attend this social demand, this paper presents research results based on the answers offered by the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Board of Education. Data analysis suggests that teachers in charge of sexual orientation projects in the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Board of Education developed a theory to explain sexual orientation in school. They believe the mere distribution of information is ineffective because the teenagers need to learn “in the emotional” to change their sexual behavior. The article examines the assumptions of this “native theory” about sexual orientation in schools.
