The aim of this paper is to present an analysis of policies for teacher education in Brazil in recent years, the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. We aimed to identify continuities and discontinuities in these policies, to understand them in their historical and social processes. We assume that the neoliberal context in which they have established and implemented policies in this period has influenced the definition of objectives and realization of educational reforms, including policies for teacher training. The examination of the implications of these policies, training in teaching practices agenda emerges as necessary in the field of research in education.
