It is a study on the relationship the press and education. The Brazilian press of the eighteen century is seen as a fruitful source for understanding the educational process to which Brazilian society was submitted through the construction of a given idea of nation at the dawn of the nineteenth century. Hipólito da Costa and the newspaper “Correio Braziliense” are then objects of study, in which the goal is to analyze the debate made on behalf of the application of liberal ideas in opposition to absolutism, whose result was the formation of the Brazilian, and helped lead them to the movement of independence, in that it contributed to the necessary ideas for the political confrontation against the Portuguese metropolis.
