This article discusses the concept of social interactions in order to clarify their role and value in classroom dynamics. Two aspects will be discussed: 1) the theory elaborated by Vygotsky, since it represents the basic support for a new theoretical approach to the relationship between social interactions and cognitive constructions; 2) the concept of social interactions in the school context, steming from a reflection about the so-called active pedagogies. The aim of the discussion is to reach a clearer notion about social interactions which have educational value, deserving to be promoted or stimulated by the teacher.
