The article aims to contribute to the intellectual history, especially of the intellectual of education, as it considers aspects that should be analyzed in an analytic approach. Therefore, was taken into consideration theoretical and methodological approaches that bring together elements of biographical studies and the history of education. From the intellectual concept, it is possible to characterize and explain the pedagogical action. It is also possible know the argument, the applicability and educational legitimacy, aspects whose historical construction requires the creation and implementation of operational categories. Finally, in this text, it was considered that the historical approach, dedicated specifically to the history of an intellectual, corresponds to an epistemic field established under a special approach that seeks to enhance the biological, social and cultural dimensions, with the intention of building knowledge from material conditions and perspectives of those who thought, in this case, the education.
