Based on results of the Educational Development Index of the State of São Paulo (Idesp), obtained for senior-year high school students in 41 schools of the São Paulo public school system from 2008 to 2012, the variations of these results in the period are analyzed, comparing the goals established for schools for each year, the Idesp obtained and the bonuses which were awarded or not. The interpretation of the data shows fluctuation in school performance over the years and does not support conclusions indicating gradual and sustainable improvements. It also identifies awards given to schools that reached standards lower than those of previous years.
