This study presents data on the great increase in the number of enrolled students in the ENEM. The results obtained in the exam are used to select students to enter into universities (public and private) in the state of São Paulo. It also presents a comparative analysis on students' performance coming from public and private schools and their selective processes, namely the one carried out by the University of Campinas. Finally, it considers the exam as an evaluation tool that helps universities at national level to select the most gifted students.
