PERRENOUD, Philippe. Teachers' training in changing social contexts: reflective practice and critical involvement. Rev. Bras. Educ. [online]. 1999, n.12, pp.05-21. ISSN 1413-2478.
The world is changing. Although the work of teachers does, not remain the same, it does not change as quickly due to the stability of academic disciplines, the relative autonomy of the school pattern with its impermeability to other social practices, and the limited influence of technology on teaching and learning. It is probable that it is the evolution of the public attending schools that has the greatest influence on the teachers' work, and this often against the will of the professionals. In order to play an active role in the process of change teachers are advised to take initiatives and to develop: a) a reflective practice which would enable them to cope with diversity and change and to rebuild the profession from within their workplace; b) A critical involvement in social debates in order to defend a~ open and democratic view of culture, knowledge, competencies and citizenship. In order to follow this direction, changes are needed in teachers' training.
