MICHELOTTO, Regina Mana. The Italian University an assessment. Avaliação (Campinas) [online]. 1998, vol.03, n.03, pp.37-50. ISSN 1414-4077.
The intensification of the universities assessment, especially the ones supported by the state, promoted locally and internationally, is a consequence of changes experienced by capitalist societies, and it affects both the peripheral countries and the ones that have reached the welfare state, like Italy. The debate on the Italian university is intense at this moment. The advent of a meaningful change to the standard established in 1969, known as "Open University" or "Mass University," and considered a democratic way of entering college due to the acceptance of students without any sort of previous evaluation, has been witnessed. The splendid meaning of these discussions as well as some proposed alternatives, sometimes considered contradictory, are the issue of this paper that is supported mostly by the debaters' words.
