Abstract: The increasing use of the internet and ICT in education has led to rethink the role/function of assessment of student learning, particularly in online environment. This work aims at presenting a reflection on digital assessment as a strategy for teaching and learning, taking into account de concepts of 'assessment for learning' and 'assessment as learning'. Thus, with regard to the online environment, organizational and functional assumptions are emphasized, which may constrain or enhance the success of the teaching/learning/assessment process, particularly in terms of the students’ previous soft competences and the integration of technology into the curriculum.
