OLIVEIRA, Terezinha. Hildegard of Bingen: An Intellectual in the Face of Religion - Knowledge and Politics. Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2019, vol.19, n.63, pp.1335-1357.  Epub 30-Ene-2020. ISSN 1981-416X.  https://doi.org/10.7213/1981-416x.19.063.ds01.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the female figure of one of the most important characters of Western Christian knowledge in the twelfth century, Hildegard of Bingen (1090-1179). Benedictine nun, author of many works of "scientific", moral and religious nature and of many letters, of which more than a hundred was preserved. In addition, she composed musical scores. Therefore, through her writings, we will show that even from within the monastery, this character established relationships with very influential people of her time, allowing us to assure that her ideas circulated and interfered with the society of her time. The sources of our study are the book Scivia and one of her Letters, addressed to Abbot Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153). Our reflections will seek to make explicit, through a historical “long-term” approach, that her writings will allow us to follow a double path. On the one hand, recovering the memory of feminine writings - Hildegard's works - allows us to affirm that the feminine figure was present and active, as author and intellectual, in the 12th century Christian medieval society and, therefore, woman occupies a place in history for centuries. On the other hand, bringing debates about a medieval Christian feminine source can contribute to the construction of new perspectives, in Brazil, for the field of the history of education.

Palabras clave : Feminine figure; Intellectual; Christian religiosity; History of Medieval Education.
