SANTOS, José Francisco dos. LEARNING FROM REVOLUTIONARY PROCESSES IN THE AFRICAN CONTINENT: pedagogical practices from Paulo Freire. Revista Teias [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.67, pp.303-314. Epub 14-Feb-2023. ISSN 1982-0305. https://doi.org/10.12957/teias.2021.60327.
The article reflects on the thought of Paulo Freire, who, if he were alive, would be completing, in 2021, his centenary of birth. A reference in the field of education, its literacy method is even recommended and awarded by several entities, such as UNESCO. Currently, it is criticized by sectors of Brazilian society linked to conservative groups, who maintain that its activity is linked to left-wing ideologies and, therefore, is not suitable for teaching. This work is based on a bibliographic review of articles, book chapters and a report document from the Brazilian embassy in Lisbon produced by the then ambassador Carlos Alberto da Fontoura. Through these materials, the political and pedagogical performance of Freire in the African continent will be worked, especially in Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, in the process after the independence of these countries, and the unrest for Freire and the countries involved will be discussed.
