This article analyzes at recent American context, the trend of expanding a model of educational provision called Charter School. Leaned on the international literature on the subject and collected information on research developed at a Washington DC Charter School. The assumption is that this model is shaped in a form of privatization of educational provision, considering it as a mechanism for public subsidy to institutions managed by the private sector which has been proposed by Foundations and Government as an alternative to Basic Education in Brazil.
