This study was based in the personal experience of one of the authors and constitutes one brief reflection concerning the role played by the new Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in common scenarios to public schools in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil. It was motivated by the perception that the ICTs have been given considerable attention by educators, and there are many studies applying them in the educational area recently. However, only a small number of these aim at critically reflecting about the use of ICTs in the schooling process, as evidenced by the bibliographic review. In this way, we expose and discuss examples of declarations concerning the value of ICTs in the teaching of Science. Furthermore, we suggest the development of activities that include argumentation in classrooms as an alternative to the use of ICTs.
