The aim of this article was to map and analyze how the production of knowledge about the epistemology of Physical Education is presented in Theses and Dissertations produced between 2001 and 2020 within the scope of Graduate Programs in Education in Brazil. Therefore, a study of the State of the Art was carried out on the portal of the Theses and Dissertations Catalog of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). Once this is done, it is possible to identify, based on two inclusion and exclusion criteria, 52 works: 34 teaching dissertations and 18 documentation theses. To analyze these works, it is opportune to conclude that: 1) there is a concentration of works on the epistemology of Physical Education that gathers in three Postgraduate Programs in Education; 2) there is a predominance of works that seek to discuss issues that permeate the production of knowledge outside the scope of Physical Education and, 3) there is a high number of references from authors who interdisciplinary dialogue with the areas of Physical Education and pedagogy.
