College education has been facing new challenges in a context of rapid changes in the higher education field. In response to such challenges, researches and actions on teachers’ professional development have been growing. In this opportunity, the Program of Continuing Education (PFC) from the Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV) - is presented. It consists of a desk study, part of a broader research about policies focused on the professional development of teachers established by universities in the State of Minas Gerais. The institutionalization of PFC constitutes an important step towards education enhancement at UFV and contributes to the strengthening of pedagogical skills, which have been historically left into the background within the context of higher education. Finally, UFV is in tune with the new responsibilities emerging nowadays for college education by offering the program of continuing education to faculty members.
