This paper analyzes the educational policies of the New Public Management in Portugal from 1999 to 2013. It seeks to identify the possible configurations of the presence of the NPM doctrines and instruments in educational policies through the analysis of five government programs. It also seeks, through OECD documents and legal diplomas, to create a new dimension of analysis for educational policies: Work and Teaching Profession. It concludes that the adoption of these policies in Portugal is justified on the basis of the OECD recommendations of 'good practices'.
