Revista Brasileira de Política e Administração da Educação [online]. 2020, vol.36, n.3, pp.1315-1335. Epub 20-Ene-2021. ISSN 2447-4193. https://doi.org/10.21573/vol36n32020.102366.
The inclusion of deaf students has presented itself as a challenge under many aspects, particularly on the implementation of public policies for its access and continuity in school. The deaf people face problems in schooling, particularly regarding communication. In this sense, the guarantee of interpreters in the educational context is a right that they have and that must be guaranteed. The objective of this research was to investigate, from the perspective of the Sign Language translator and interpreter/Portuguese Language of the Teresina-PI state school system, the implementation of the school inclusion policy for the deaf student. The study has qualitative nature, descriptive, having the School Inclusion Policy Evaluation Questionnaire and the semi-structured interview as tools. Among the results, the participants' view stands out that the current policy in force does not meet the specificities and particularities of the deaf, because although access to school is facilitated, permanence has been made impossible by different factors.
