The article is part of an ongoing research on the challenges and possibilities of consolidating in-service continuing education on Secondary Education Integrated with Vocational and Technological Education. To support the investigation, a state of the art was carried out based on doctoral theses from the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations of CAPES, in addition to a Discursive Textual Analysis of the abstracts of theses being elaborated in order to answer the research problem question in other words: what do doctoral theses point out about the challenges and possibilities of implementing Secondary Education Integrated with Professional and Technological Education (EMI and EPT) in Federal Institutes (IFs)?. The conclusion was reached that one of the main tensions in the implementation of the EMI is the lack of an institutionalized policy of continuous training in the Federal Institutes on this subject. It is urgent, therefore, to create a course that meets the aspirations of Integrated Secondary Education, a heritage of the working class.
