Teacher training in Brazil has historically been permeated by disputed society projects. This dispute proposes the training of teachers in accordance with its principles, that is, on the one hand, a pragmatic project aimed at preparing the workforce for work and, on the other, a project that seeks the omnilateral development of the human being, guided by in training through work as a builder and producer of one’s own existence. The ideological and epistemological assumptions that support teacher training alternate, sometimes configuring epistemic and ideological contradictions; on others, converging in consensus and negotiations. In this article, we interviewed professor Vera Lúcia Bazzo, a retired professor from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and member of the National Association for the Training of Education Professionals (ANFOPE), an exponent of brazilian education and active in the fight for a society project that defends a public, secular and social quality education for everyone. In his powerful speech, his militancy and vein of struggle for a democratic society and education for all permeate his personal, academic and professional life story, being the tone of his actions, politicizations and reactions to moments lived and imposed in periods of greater, lesser or total absence of democratic freedom. In this sense, the constitution of his professional trajectory is linked by a constant epistemic curiosity and a keen sense of social justice, which has contributed to the advancement of teacher training in Brazil through his engagement in the promotion and defense of public policies for the teacher training - curricular guidelines and common national training base - aligned with the democratic ideas that permeate their life trajectories, profession and activism.
