This text aims to present reflections on the trajectory of educational policies for youth and adults throughout the history of education in Brazil until his encounter with professional education, through the National Program for the Integration of Vocational Education in Basic Education in the form Education for Youth and Adults - PROEJA. So, is narrated by a critical number of important events and the effectiveness of the Youth and Adult Education as a mode of instruction, which occurred from the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education Law No. 9394/96 time perspective as well as the integration this mode of education to professional education, through Decree No. 5.478/2005, replaced after one year by Decree 5.840/2006, which established PROEJA.
