The present article aims to discuss the relations between rural education and youth in its plurality. To this end, a survey was conducted of what the theses and dissertations carried out in Brazil from 2002 to 2022 say, based on two categories of analysis: rural and countryside youth; education in/of the countryside. In all, 124 works were selected, the mapping made possible an analysis of the scientific rigor based on Charlot (2006); the theoretical and methodological choices of the researchers, and their main results. The study reveals a lack of research in schools located in settlements, itinerant schools, rural communities, and even the inexistence of studies in social movement camps. It is also pointed out the importance of researches that discuss limits and possibilities of proposals and experiences in rural education from its epistemological conceptions in order to exercise the methodological perspective of understanding the real movement of rural education.
