Resumen

OLIVEIRA, Terezinha. PRESERVATION AND DIFFUSION OF KNOWLEDGE IN THE MEDIEVAL: APPROACHES BETWEEN CASSIODORUS AND D. PEDRO. Hist. Educ. [online]. 2023, vol.27, e125669.  Epub 31-Jul-2023. ISSN 2236-3459.  https://doi.org/10.1590/2236-3459/125669.

The objective of this article is to analyze two formative proposals in transitional periods of the Western Medieval. The first is the one by Cassiodorus (490-591), which was of fundamental importance in the development of the monastic educational project. The second belongs to Infante D. Pedro (1392-1449), a key character in the formation of King D. Duarte. Based on the principles of social history, especially concerning the long term, the reflection focuses on the relevance of past knowledge as a condition for the conservation of society in the present. It should be noted that both proposals are similar in the way their authors made use of knowledge of the past, history, and memory to present social and political projects that ensure the organization and preservation of culture in their times.

Palabras clave : Intellectuals; history of medieval education; monastery; government.
