This text presents a qualitative study with coordinators of undergraduate courses in Biomedicine, Physical Education, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Veterinary Medicine, Nutrition, Dentistry and Psychology at a private University. The objective was to understand the institutional strategies employed by course coordinators to deal with the dropout of undergraduate students in Health Sciences and to propose a program to prevent university dropout. We adopted a Content Analysis supported by Qualitative Content Map 2020 software. Two main categories were identified: recognizing barriers and characteristics of students and valuing institutional actions and resources, each with five subcategories that constituted essential factors for the foundation of the proposal. The proposal to prevent university dropouts among undergraduate health students had two main approaches: financial and motivational. Undergraduate health coordinators highlighted actions to prevent university dropout based on the challenges faced by students and available university resources. This proposal for a university dropout prevention program can contribute to rethinking aspects of motivation, financial support, appreciation of academic development and institutional support for academic management in higher education in health.
