The aim of the article is to provide essential and relevant information on social educational technologies from a point of view of educational praxis. We conducted a survey of recent research on the theme, as well as the author´s research line production, in order to support the work of future researchers who wish to investigate this problem. Social educational technologies, the focus of the present study, seek to improve the quality of life of learners through low-cost and widely accessible technologies. These technologies provide an educational vehicle for the development of an optimistic view of opportunities and the development of personal autonomy. The hypothesis of this study could be that social technologies of digital origin can be transformative agents in education and change someone’s life by means of autonomy.
