This research has been conducted on schoolchildren from rural and urban areas. The aim was analyzing the meanings they ascribed in the face of the social inequalities presented in the movie “O Menino e o Mundo” through the lens of Cultural-Historical Psychology. By means of their transcripts and maps of meanings, the research revealed that the way children constructed and expressed meanings is related to the socio-educational context they are in, especially situations of oppression and vulnerability. Cinema avails this meaning mediation process and creative processes must be explored at school as a means of overcoming social disparity.
