In this paper the author reviews studies about teacher-pupils interaction. It is argued that classroom observation is a valid method of research on teaching and evaluation of teacher competence. The most significant work in this area are revised and analysed, and the methodological and conceptual issues are stated. Some new research trends on teaching are considered promising to the application of teacher-pupil interaction observation methods.
