This work has the objective of raising questions referrent to the functioning of Parent-Teachers Association in public schools, in order to understand how they relate to the processes of social selectivity that operate within the school. Criteria and practices adopted by schools which make the composition of the board and the participation of parents restricted to higher SES parents, and forms of collection of yearly fees are carefully discussed. They are part of a strategy that instead of contributing to the betterment of the educational process, to the assistance to the student and to the integration of family, school and community, reinforces its role of collector of resources, with which the school will cover expenses that should be covered by the government.
