Among the various issues raised by a field inquiry upon the full time attendance to public schools, the authors deal here with the functions which may or should be attributed to a full time public school. They discuss its possible contribution to the process of democratizing access to systematized knowledge and the issues implied in the use of the school system to solve problems derived from a broader social realm.
