The growing knowledge of the cerebral structure and function allows the progressive improvement of the study of the cognitive functions, considering the relationship between psychological process and the correspondent cerebral organization. In this context, the present work proposes an approach between the piagetian explanation and the explanation offered by neurosciences to the same processes: knowledge and cognitive development, looking for coherence and complementary ideas between both explanations. We took the central concepts of Genetics Epistemology and Psychology - assimilation, accommodation, scheme and cognitive developmental stages - in order to, afterwards, look for convergence between these psychological concepts and the knowledge about structure, functioning and development of the nervous system.
