This paper attempts to analyze the signification of gender in funk (dance) that permeates the classes and presentations in a disadvantaged community in Canoas, RS. For this to be realized qualitative and exploratory research was carried out. Eight hours of class and presentation observations were done. The results showed that on one side, the dance classes could be an important tool for the transformation of youth, as it gives them great satisfaction, but, on the other side, it may represent a space of domination and normalization of social roles that reinforce the gender differences
