This text is a product of the author’s participation in the thematic dialogue table “Politics, education and modernity of Freirean thought” at the II International Paulo Freire Congress. Reconstituting moments from the life of the educator Paulo Freire, the article seeks to show how organic the relation between politics and education is for him, how structural this relation is to his thinking, and how it has been experienced over time. Given this, it strives to make a point of the constancy of some concepts and what was transient for Freire, to thus bring his thought with the aims of updating it according to the reality that we live today. In this perspective, in the end, it presents some of the great contemporary issues that are posed for humanity, in particular, for educators, summoning the contemporaneity of Freire an thinking to face them.
