NOGUEIRA, MARLICE DE OLIVEIRA E y SILVA, LUCIANO CAMPOS. SCHOOLING IN RURAL AREAS: AGE-GRADE DISTORTION FROM THE ADMINISTRATORS’ POINT OF VIEW. Est. Aval. Educ. [online]. 2022, vol.33, e07289. Epub 06-Jun-2022. ISSN 1984-932X. https://doi.org/10.18222/eae.v33.7289.
This article presents results of a study that investigated the conditions in which situations of age-grade distortion occur among students living in rural areas. The perceptions of school administrators about this phenomenon were analyzed, particularly, how they explain its occurrence in the schools where they work. The methodology used was qualitative and mainly involved interviews with the administrators of five schools. The results indicate that, from the administrators’perspective, two sets of factors would be at the base of the students’ school failure: extra-curricular factors and in-school factors, synthesized as mismatches between the modality of school offer (curriculum, times and spaces) and the social and cultural reality experienced by students in rural contexts.
